: WorkSafe ACT is a fully independent office headed by the WHS Commissioner. WorkSafe ACT achieves its objectives through a combination of compliance and enforcement, awareness raising, education, inspection, and investigation. It is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance by duty holders in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and associated legislation for Workers' Compensation and Labour Hire Licensing.

We have an exciting permanent vacancy for a suitably skilled professional to fill the brand new role of Director, Legal Policy, and Investigations. In this role you will shape a new team and inspire, lead and mentor legal policy and investigations staff. Your leadership and management approach will ensure performance, development, and priorities align with our strategic objectives. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience, comprehensive understanding of contemporary investigation processes, and legal and policy analysis skills.

The successful candidate will:

form part of WorkSafe ACT’s broader Leadership Group and play a key role in assisting WorkSafe ACT in meeting its strategic commitment to regulatory excellence and our public facing accountability indicators, lead subject matter experts, and drive cultural reform within teams and more broadly across WorkSafe ACT.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

Knowledge of work health and safety or workers’ compensation laws and related legislation is highly desirable. Tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in law or a related area are highly desirable.

Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill substantially identical vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on referee reports and written application only. This position will be in a workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
