Job Description


BESIX Watpac is proud to be engaged as managing contractor for major upgrade to the Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Cairns. Our scope of works include deconstructing the existing wharf and constructing a new wharf that will accommodate the introduction of new naval capability into service.

We seek a Project Engineer to join our experienced team, managing critical and technically challenging activities to achieve project safety, time, quality, environment and budget objectives.

Prepare and monitor project management plans, systems and registers, as delegated by the Project Manager. Manage a number of “critical path” type subcontractors to technical requirements. Proactively participate in Subcontractor Coordination meetings to ensure that a highly productive work environment is created and maintained. Establish and monitor quality controls as per specifications and project management plans in addition to reporting variances and rectifying quality defects. Identify and manage project resources, including materials handling equipment, for optimum productivity. Assist with cost management and reporting including preparation of project reports, material registers, cash flow predictions and progress claims.

Qualifications


The incumbent in this role will require the following qualifications and experience:

Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or a recognised equivalent. Construction delivery experience in a Project Engineer or Site Engineer capacity. Ability to communicate, influence and build effective relationships at all levels of the business. Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills. Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment.
