Your impact

At Jacobs, we push the limits of what’s possible to make the world smarter, more connected and more sustainable. In our transport work, that means designing innovative solutions to move people and goods safely and efficiently across the globe. From rail systems mobilising accessible transit, to ports linking land and sea – when it comes to connecting the people and places of tomorrow, the future of transport depends on us.

Bring your curiosity, talent for multi-tasking, and extreme attention to detail, and we’ll help you grow, pursue and fulfill what drives you – so we can make big impacts on the world, together.

Jacobs is seeking an experienced  Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team in North Queensland, based out of either Townsville or Cairns. Reporting to the Section Leader of Tunnel and Ground Engineering (TGE), this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to major Transport, Water, and Power projects while fostering a culture of inclusivity and care.

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in analysing and assessing soil and rock properties to determine their behaviour under various conditions. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing foundations for structures, evaluating slope stability, and providing solutions for complex ground-related challenges. You'll be involved in all stages of projects, from initial site investigations to final design and construction support.

Your responsibilities will include conducting field investigations, interpreting geotechnical data, performing advanced soil and rock mechanics analyses, and developing detailed design recommendations. You'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil engineers, structural engineers, hydrologists, and environmental specialists, to ensure comprehensive and innovative solutions for our clients.

In this position, you'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, such as highways, bridges, slope assessments, deep excavations, retaining structures, and ground improvement techniques. Your expertise in geotechnical software and your ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical engineering problems will be highly valued.

As a senior member of the team, you'll also play a vital role in mentoring junior staff, sharing your knowledge and experience to nurture the next generation of geotechnical engineers. Your guidance will be crucial in developing their technical skills and professional growth.

At Jacobs, we prioritise our people. You'll be expected to actively engage with and promote our core values, fostering an inclusive and diverse culture across the business. Our Culture of Caring emphasises the health and wellbeing of all team members, and we look to our senior staff to exemplify and champion these principles.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in geotechnical engineering, with experience in a variety of ground conditions and project types. You should have excellent communication skills, the ability to manage complex projects, and a passion for innovative problem-solving.

Join us at Jacobs and be part of a team that's shaping the future of infrastructure while prioritising sustainability and environmental stewardship.
