Job Description

Nine News is seeking an experienced court reporter and general news reporter to join its dynamic and fast-paced newsroom in Darwin. We’re looking for a confident and thorough journalist with a proven track record in covering court proceedings and crime. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing accurate, balanced, and engaging reports that reflect the complexities of court cases and judicial processes. This role is suited to a journalist who thrives in high-pressure environments and is driven to uphold the integrity of our coverage.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Source, research, and produce compelling daily stories for both local and national bulletins, focusing on court cases, crime reports, and justice-related issues. Deliver comprehensive and accurate accounts of legal proceedings, ensuring clarity and fairness for viewers. Work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality or accuracy. Engage audiences by presenting court stories in an informative, compelling manner, adapting content for both television and digital platforms. Monitor social media, legal bulletins, and local news outlets for breaking news and potential court-related stories. Provide fresh and innovative ideas for storytelling across television and online formats, especially on legal matters. Build and maintain a strong network of legal contacts, including court officials, law enforcement, and legal professionals.

Qualifications

What we would like to see on your resume:

Proven experience in Journalism Court and crime reporting with strong journalistic instincts is highly desirable  Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or equivalent. Excellent writing skills, on-air presence, and ability to produce stories tailored for TV news. Familiarity with legal terminology and court reporting procedures. Adaptability and agility in a rapidly evolving news environment. Highly organised and proactive, with strong time-management skills. Ability to remain composed and detail-oriented, even in high-stakes or emotionally charged situations.
