About AFAC

AFAC is the national council for fire, land management and emergency service authorities in Australia and New Zealand, representing 35 member organisations, comprising permanent, part-time personnel and volunteers, totalling 295,000 firefighters and emergency workers. 

AFAC seeks to amplify the collective capability and capacity of emergency management organisations. Through connection, collaboration, and innovation, they support members to advance the safety and resilience of communities.

AFAC has several business units that facilitate a broad range of activities on behalf of its members. These include professional services, aircraft contract management, cross border deployment of emergency services personnel and other nationally significant activities such as management of the national conference and National Emergency Services Memorial.

The role - Business Process Analyst

This position will have a focus on mapping, documenting, analysing and improving processes central to AFAC’s product delivery. The role will be critical in understanding and defining both business and member needs and processes to enable the Product Management team to develop and evolve on process architecture which aligns to our long-term strategic objectives.  

As our new Business Process Analyst some of your responsibilities will include: 

  • Communicate with AFAC staff and external members to determine document their product/applications requirements  
  • Work with AFAC staff and external members to understand, document, and sometimes design customised processes and module improvements, including designing reports to meet requirements  
  • Work within the Product Management process to assist Product Managers populating and maintaining product backlogs  
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, records, minute taking, email communications and product management tasks  
  • Understand and document training requirements for processes and product/applications functions  
  • Design and prepare suitable training material and, where required, deliver or support the delivery of training  
  • Management of some basic financial practices such as invoice reconciliations, etc.  
  • Recommend areas for further product/applications development  
  • Comply with AFAC’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.  
  • Other suitable duties as determined by the Technical Product Manager.  

About you

This role will suit an individual who loves working directly with many different people and gets a kick out of making a real difference. The focus of this role is to help members with our products aligned to Aerial Firefighting services, so an interest in aviation and/or firefighting is not required but would be well regarded. 

You may currently be in a Business or Process Analyst role within an IT or Business function having worked closely with key stakeholders or customers. This is a hands-on role, and while our organisation is small, our member base is extremely large. The role will require someone who is highly self-motivated and driven with excellent stakeholder management skills.  

The successful applicant also will possess: 

  • High level communications skills, including the preparation of written materials and public speaking  
  • Demonstrable business and/or process analysis experience  
  • Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills, demonstrated ability to implement creative solutions and innovate
  • Knowledge of, and preferably experience with, product management and Agile practices and tools including Jira, Confluence, Miro, etc.
  • Data management and system skills preferred
