Your opportunity:

Our Digital & Information group have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Operational Technology Applications Lead to join our newly established Digital Experience and Operations team.

Digital & Information is responsible for digitally enabling Urban Utilities today and digitally transforming future capability to enable provision of digital services to our customers, community and people. The group is accountable to formulate and execute Urban Utilities’ digital & data strategy, deliver Urban Utilities digital portfolio and provide day-to-day operations of information technology (IT), operating technology (OT), data, and the Internet of Things (IOT), including security, infrastructure management, system administration, network operations, and support services.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Digital Applications & Services, the OT Applications Lead is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all operational technology applications. This includes SCADA, IoT, and GIS systems. The role involves ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of OT applications, managing patching and updates, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Success in this role will be measured by the efficiency and reliability of OT application operations, adherence to security and performance standards, stakeholder satisfaction, and the effectiveness of application management practices. Key performance indicators will include application uptime, incident response times, compliance with security standards, and successful implementation of improvements.

About you:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field

  • Relevant qualifications in OT application management (certified SCADA Security Architect) and ITIL would be highly desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in OT application management, leading technical teams, and ensuring the reliability and security of complex application environments.

  • Strong knowledge of digital application technologies across OT, IoT, and GIS domains.

  • Extensive experience in managing OT application operations, including SCADA, IoT, and GIS systems

  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and planning to ensure cost-effective application operations

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience running a similar multi-function unit in a large organisation, ideally with a customer centric model.

  • Experience in engaging with stakeholders to identify business requirements.

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and leading innovation in application management practices.

  • Leading, managing, and directing technical teams in the delivery of application operations in a complex environment.

Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner.
