Aircraft Development Engineer

As an Aircraft Development Engineer (Operations Focus), you will develop and implement software to analyse Aircraft Performance Monitoring (APM) data received directly from the aircraft. You will monitor performance trends to address questions from our sustainability teams and evaluate performance guarantees for newly delivered aircraft. Over time, your role will expand to include conducting technical evaluation studies for both current and future aircraft types, working closely with aircraft and engine manufacturers.
Additionally, you will collaborate with key internal stakeholders, including Engineering, Flight Operations, and Fleet & Network Planning, to deliver optimised performance outcomes. This will involve emphasising route profitability while prioritising environmental and sustainability considerations. Your contributions will be vital in shaping the future of our aircraft performance and sustainability initiatives.
You’ll have –
Professional Engineering tertiary qualification. Qualification in Aeronautical Engineering would be highly regarded Strong interest and skillset in software development. Computer Science Degree advantageous but not essential Relevant experience in Java, JavaScript, C#, Python, or Go is highly desirable Strong understanding of airline operations, aircraft performance and navigation Basic knowledge of optimisation techniques and algorithms and an interest in Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) The ability to communicate complex algorithms to fellow engineers and software developers Ability to think out of the box and develop tools to enhance productivity The ability to work independently with a can-do attitude, whilst still playing an essential role as part of a high functioning agile team.Why Qantas?
