The Role

Based in Brisbane and reporting the Category Manager, the Category Specialist is responsible for the maximising the benefits of DTI strategic contracts, through best practice category management activities to deliver value for money to DTI.
The successful applicant will be responsible for leading strategic sourcing and category management activities across multiple categories in partnership with DTI stakeholders, delivering value for money outcomes that support DTI’s strategy. This role will also be responsible for managing the contractual performance of suppliers to maintain long term strategic relationships, with a focus on driving continuous supply chain improvement and performance.

Responsibilities

Typical day to day duties will include, and not be limited to the following.

  • Leading and implementing category strategies, from negotiating value for money outcomes with suppliers through to opportunity analysis to identify supply chain efficiencies..
  • Analysing current and future market conditions, trends and identifying sourcing opportunities. 
  • Analyse and understanding all potential risks at the category level.
  • Undertake and facilitate relevant strategic sourcing activities, commercial evaluations and recommendations.
  • Collaborate across Procurement, Commercial and Legal units of DTI as necessary to establish and manage strategic supplier arrangements.
  • Manage relationships and performance of strategic supplier contracts.
  • Develop internal buyers guides and other relevant internal publications to make supplier arrangements easy to use across the organisation..
  • Put in place benefits monitoring and reporting, both financial and non-financial
  • Prepare concise, accurate and timely reports.
     

About You

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Procurement / Category / Contracts / Commercial Specialist or Lead Role/s
  • Tertiary qualification in Procurement, Commerce or Engineering (or equivalent) essential
  • Post Graduate studies in Procurement and Supply Chain desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in managing various direct and indirect categories within a major construction organisation.
  • Knowledge of the domestic infrastructure market (e.g. rail, road, renewables or civil will be highly regarded)
  • Desirable experience with SAP (S/4HANA & SAP Ariba) and Microsoft PowerBi.
  • Former experience as a procurement or category management consultant in a specialised advisory firm would be highly regarded.
  • Collaborative communication style with the ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • High level of self-discipline, self-motivation, energy and initiative
