Mercy College is seeking to appoint a passionate Sports & Co-Curricular Co-ordinator to co-ordinate student participation in CSBB (Catholic Schools Broken Bay) Secondary Sports, school and CSBB carnivals, extra-curricular sports, activities and the Duke of Edinburgh program.

This is a full time permanent appointment commencing Term 1 2025 and would be ideal for a teacher with experience leading and administering sports programs.

About the School

Mercy Catholic College, Chatswood is a systemic girls secondary school on the Lower North Shore of Sydney. The school was established in 1890 by the Sisters of Mercy. The first lay Principal was appointed in 1989. The enrolment of the college is 730 students.

The college aims to educate students to be strong Catholic women, ready and able to take an active role in society. It values the role of the individual (students, staff, parents) within the community, and attempts to encourage the understanding that rights must be balanced by responsibilities. It strives to meet the sentiments of the prophet Micah to 'act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God'.

Specific Criteria

  • Be responsible for the leadership and administration of sports and activity programs, including Mercy Catholic College carnivals
  • Recruit and lead volunteer coaches and team managers in the implementation of coaching excellence within each sport
  • Lead the trial and selection process for each sport in an inclusive and fair fashion
  • Maintain high expectations of student behaviour and participation
  • Ensure adherence to school policies and processes, including the Child Protection Policy
  • Represent the College in the wider community at CSBB and other sporting and co-curricular meetings and carnivals as required
  • Be able to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic professional learning community
  • Have highly developed interpersonal, presentation and communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with staff, students, parents/carers and community members
  • Support the vision, purpose and values of Catholic Schools Broken Bay and the strategic priorities of the College
  • Some availability will be required on Saturday's and evening's which will be compensated with time in lieu
  • Role may be accompanied with a small teaching load

Applicants who are not currently working in a Broken Bay systemic school must have a 4 year training qualification or be enrolled to undertake further study that will provide them with a four year trained qualification to be eligible to apply for any teaching position in the Diocese.

New position on COVID-19 vaccinations

Given the current management of risks associated with COVID-19 in the community, and the gradual wind-back of some settings, CSBB has decided to no longer require all staff to be fully vaccinated, effective 19 September 2022. Staff who are not vaccinated will be required to wear masks when working with children at greater risk of serious illness owing to a medical condition and/or physical disability.
