Ideally, you are a solution architect, with strong knowledge and experience in the following technology areas from Enterprise Transformations:

Your primary role is to develop all architecture deliverables required by programs and projects, including solution architecture documents, as part of the enterprise and line-of-business blueprinting, road-mapping, and solution delivery activities. Your job will be to ensure that these deliverables align with the overall technology strategy, blueprints and roadmaps, whilst also addressing the business and customer requirements of a number of projects. From time to time, you will also contribute to financial estimations and business case preparation.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Develops potential solutions for business problems using existing systems, new applications or custom developed capabilities as appropriate.
  • Understands the alignment to architectural principles, standards, tooling, strategy, process and roadmaps.
  • Advocates and drives a focus on customer needs and improving the customer experience.
  • Performs technical evaluation of requirements and assessments for RFI, RFP and Proof of concepts.
  • Develops a preliminary solution architecture view, with context and key inputs during project delivery evaluation phase.
  • Understands the architectural decisions that need to be made, risks and issues, and articulates these clearly during governance boards.
  • Identifies a variety of solution options, understanding the concepts of minimum viable product, through to a perfect solution, and can pragmatically argue and defend positions along that spectrum.
  • Can operate in both agile and waterfall delivery modes comfortably.
  • Ensures that projects are aligned with broader enterprise-wide strategy and architecture to ensure high levels of cohesion, consistency and reuse across the enterprise.
  • Participates as a member of the architecture community in architecture process, working groups, council and governance meetings, as well as all enterprise-wide technology strategy activities as needed from time to time.
  • Communicates with both external (e.g. solution vendors, customers) and internal (e.g. business GMs) parties to create architecture solutions that are aligned with our strategic intent.

During the Evaluation phase, the architect provides assistance to allow assessment of viability and cost of potential solutions. The person in this role will be part of the virtual team formed to address these initiatives. Their responsibility will be to provide technical advice to the team on:

  • Potential solutions based on existing systems, packages or custom developed solutions as appropriate.
  • Integration with existing systems solutions using established integration patterns
  • Alignment of architectural standards and strategies
  • Technical evaluation requirements and assessments for RPIs, RFPs and Proof of concepts
  • Develop the Preliminary Solution Architecture key deliverable for the Evaluation phase
  • Presents the preliminary solution and any architecture decisions, risks and issues to the governance boards for endorsement

During the Deliver phase, the Architect is expected to:

  • Develop the full Solution Architecture deliverable
  • Update the internal knowledge repository showing project impact against existing systems, interfaces and architecture models
  • Presents the full solution and any architecture decisions, risks and issues to the governance boards for endorsement
  • Provides technical assurance and architectural assistance to the service provider selected for the project delivery
  • Review other project deliverables such as Detailed Design documents, Interface Specifications, Test Strategy, etc.
  • Assists with resolution of architecture and technical issues during the project.

The Solution Architect will also be part of the broader Architecture team and provide consulting input into solutions if they have expertise knowledge as well as peer reviewing other solution architecture artefacts and deliverables.
