Melbourne, Australia Transurban Full time

Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads—to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.

About the role

We’re seeking a Social Sustainability Manager to work closely with the Director of Social Licence to support the implementation of Transurban’s Sustainability strategy, with a key focus being the creation and implementation of a social impact framework.

You’ll join an innovative and inclusive team, who are passionate about creating impact, have a depth of knowledge and are authentic and genuine people. They are highly ambitious and thrive in a high-performance culture, while having team wellbeing at the forefront of their minds.

As our Social Sustainability Manager, you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

We are seeking someone for an 18-month fixed term role.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Work with the Director of Social Licence and other internal and external stakeholders to build and implement an impact framework for the organisation

  • Use data to develop and support progression of project/initiatives aligned to trends that impact Transurban and are likely to grow trust

  • Manage programs of work relating to the social sustainability strategy, creating impact for our stakeholders and trust in the organisation

  • Proactively work with stakeholders across the business, to share knowledge on social value and to gather stories to demonstrate how Transurban is creating impact

  • Monitor and report on key social and industry issues and trends as well as best practice responses

  • Support the management of project resourcing, structure, timing and budget

  • Proactively build internal and external relationships and develop a network with key stakeholders and bodies

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • Demonstrated experience working to create and implement social impact frameworks, and an understanding of social value methodologies

  • Demonstrated understanding of Sustainability/ESG and emerging trends both in Australia and globally

  • Experience executing complex strategic initiatives to support business wide objectives

  • Strong project management skills and experience, with attention to detail

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and to develop credible working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong analytical skills in interpreting and presenting data, strong written and communication skills

  • Proactive, with an ability to capture and initiate new opportunities for impact

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A range of flexible working options

  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, available for the duration of the contract, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well

  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests

  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more

  • Social activities and groups

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with disability. If you require any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, please contact us on careers@transurban.com.
