The Role
As an engineering specialist in the Maritime Warfare Centre (MWC) you will apply and develop your engineering knowledge to analyse and evaluate complex systems in the field of signature analysis. You will also be responsible for defining requirements for maritime ranges used for measurement of the Fleet’s lethality and undersea signatures.
Many people choose engineering out of interest in technology and to solve challenging problems in a hands on manner. If this describes you, or if want a change in your career, this role provide a unique opportunity to explore your technical/engineering interests including:
In this specialised area we don’t anticipate that you will start as a subject matter expert but you have an interest to solve novel problems. So, we commit to support you to develop and enhance your skills including training on naval systems, test evaluation, signatures & stealth, maritime ranges and data exploitation.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration whilst performing Sonar Trials at sea.
Note: This position will be required to access US export controlled materiel and therefore applicants will be requested to disclose any dual citizenship with another country during the recruitment process. Dual citizens may be subject to further assessment and appointment to this position will be conditional upon approval to access US controlled export material in accordance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
About our Team
The Maritime Warfare Centre (MWC) mission is to improve our Navy’s effectiveness by increasing lethality and simultaneously reducing vulnerability. We achieve this mission through Test & Evaluation, Operational Analysis and development of tactics.
The teams you will be working in directly support this mission through:
Maximising warfighting effectiveness through measurement and analysis; Modelling and simulation of enabling capabilities; Use and distribution of data as the source of truth to inform decision making; Undertaking exercises and trials to assess our capabilities; Development of tactics for the evolving threat; Design, development and operation of the maritime ranges to measure lethality and improve stealth; Design, development of weapon, combat systems and signature analysis software.
Join our integrated workforce to collaborate with civilian and military experts in engineering, science, warfare and policy. Together we will help shape and improve our warfighting capabilities across Navy to defend Australia and its national interests.
Our Ideal Candidate
As the ideal candidate you have motivation and ability to apply your strong technical and analytic skills in evaluation of undersea signatures and the ranging systems that measure it. You will contribute to a culture of cooperation for development and sharing of knowledge whilst exercising initiative and judgement.
You may be required to undertake work overseas, interstate and in remote locations, on land and at sea. Candidates are sought with interest in the following areas:
Stealth in an undersea domain; Data acquisition systems; Development of analysis systems for performance evaluation (e.g. software and hardware); Modelling and simulation.
The successful candidate will possess good oral and written communication skills as well as having a sound understanding of the fundamentals of electrical systems. Disciplines that are appropriate to these positions at a Diploma level, or higher, include:
Systems Engineering; Electrical/Electronic Engineering; Mechatronics Engineering.
The primary skill remains an interest technical problem solving and a desire to find opportunities for improvement. Your unique work journey in life will bring new perspective to our team.
