About the role

We are seeking a teacher who has outstanding interpersonal skills with a natural ability to communicate effectively and build genuine relationships with parents, students, and staff members. The successful applicant would quickly establish a positive and welcoming classroom environment with high expectations, and a growth mindset, while building students’ positive social and emotional skills. 

The successful applicant will ideally possess exemplary teaching skills, be highly motivated and hold themselves accountable to delivering best practice. You should have the ability to work in an environment characterised by whole school connected practice, collaborative team structures and a strong commitment to professional growth.

Ideally, the successful applicant will take advantage of high impact teaching strategies, and have proven experience in the planning and delivery of engaging literacy and numeracy programs with a particular focus on explicit instruction. A deep understanding of how to differentiate to meet the needs of all students will be highly regarded, as is the ability to use a variety of assessment tools to inform progress, enable constructive feedback and drive future planning at a classroom level.

The successful applicant will ideally be relationship focused with a consistent and transparent classroom management approach and a willingness to adopt the whole school Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach to behaviour management. You should be enthusiastic, seek opportunities for innovation and leadership and possess the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. An advantage would to have trained in some form of Explicit Instruction.

Our school

Nullagine PS is set in the picturesque town of Nullagine - 200 km North of Newman and 100 km South of Marble Bar. It is in a very spectacular part of the Pilbara, surrounded by rugged spinifex covered hills which are dotted with abandoned mine shafts. During the good rain years, the waterholes and wildflowers are spectacular. Access to the town is by unsealed roads.

The school serves the Irrungadji Community of Martu people and children of service workers. We cater for students from K-12 in 3 classes with students grouped around phases of development. The Martu students all have English as a Third Language and Martu Wangka is the first dialect of English they speak. Standard Australian English is used only in the school setting.

As a member of the teaching team at Nullagine PS you will develop authentic and rich learning tasks, work with students to develop goals, apply a range of instruction and explicit teaching incorporating current and emerging technologies to meet the needs of our students. Our team displays a commitment to excellence and can establish and maintain a positive classroom learning environment using a restorative approach that focuses on responsibility, building resilience and self-confidence.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
