Roebourne District High School (DHS) is seeking a motivated and innovative Workplace Support Officer. The ideal applicant should be passionate about supporting young people on their pathways through secondary school and beyond. They will ideally have excellent communication skills and prior experience liaising with and connecting key stakeholders in community to meet the needs of young people.

The successful applicant will support the operations of the Internship program, workplace learning and community service activities in the secondary school. Delivery of these programs may include:

Interacting with students, colleagues and mentors in the classroom, community, training organisations and within industry. Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on engagement, transition, enrolment, and post-school pathways data. Supporting students on their individual pathways to employment, training, or further education, aligned with their personal learning plan. Establishing workplace and mentor databases and networks that can be drawn on to connect students to meaningful internship, linked to their interests. Conducting site visits and compliance checks for potential industry internship placements. Develop mentor and industry resources to support effective work placements and internships. Coordinate 'career taster' opportunities for students Year 9-12 Research and seek out experiences and opportunities for students to engage in to expand their interests and post-school options.

A key aspect of this role includes supporting teachers and other staff to engage young people in learning through implementation of the Big Picture Learning Australia (BPLA) design for education. This design encourages all students to identify and pursue their interests and passions. Our students graduate Year 12 with an International Big Picture Learning Credential. We seek to strongly prepare our young people for their pathways into training, further education or employment post-secondary and we start that by engaging students in the community through internships. BPLA training and coaching will be provided to the successful applicant alongside other professional learning and on-the-job training opportunities.

The successful applicant should be organised, committed, and ideally have experience in the training sector or employment services. Competent use of technology, sound communication and effective interpersonal skills are important for working with students, staff and community. The successful applicant should have the ability to adopt and to use English as additional language/dialect (EALD) strategies as the majority of our students speak a range of languages as well as Aboriginal English.

Roebourne DHS caters to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, with approximately 98% of the students being Aboriginal. Built on a foundation of cultural responsiveness, we recognise, value and support the rich cultures of the First Nations people of the Roebourne area, the Ngarluma people, the traditional owners of the land, Yindjibarndi people, Banyjima people and the many other traditional owner groups that make up the diverse Roebourne community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating suitable programs for students acquiring life skills and/or accessing recreational activities. Well-developed keyboarding and computer skills, including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing. Sound written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, employers and parents. Sound organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and identify priorities. Initiative and sound problem solving skills, including the ability to identify appropriate solutions.
