About the opportunity  

The Head of Portfolio Planning & Management is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and growth of a portfolio of projects within Australia Post. This role plays a critical role in driving strategic growth and success across a portfolio of initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, and maximizing value delivery. This role provides input into prioritisation and sequencing decision for enterprise business initiatives by considering trade off speed, risk and reward. This individual will collaborate with various stakeholders to execute high level impact assessments for proposed initiatives and data collection for trends analysis.

The Head of Portfolio Planning & Management demands substantial expertise in managing enterprise-level portfolios, necessitating robust business acumen and leadership skills to instigate change through governing portfolio planning and prioritisation. This involves optimising resource allocation, overseeing performance monitoring across portfolios and fostering continuous improvement in relevant processes and initiatives. This position ensures the realisation of benefits while maintaining constant alignment with the business strategies, requirements, change and risk tolerance of the enterprise.

You’ll also   

  • Manage the activities and initiatives of the Portfolio Planning and Management function within the EPMO.
  • Chair and facilitate portfolio prioritisation and planning forums.
  • Facilitate the execution of strategic decision making and support execution of strategic initiatives in relation the Australia Post’s Project Portfolio
  • Govern the Idea Development through to Business Case Approval phase of the Project Lifecycle.
  • Support maintenance of a single-source visibility and a backlog of all initiative requests to maintain data integrity and promote effective strategic planning.
  • Accountable for the enterprise value and benefit tracking methodology.
  • Achieve value for money savings and efficiency gains from project rationalisation.
  • Liaise with the Demand/Supply Manager to provide input on the enterprise demand and resource profile.

About you  

You are a strong communicator with the ability to liaise and influence people across all levels of the organisation. Your key stakeholders are the external workforce vendors, Finance/Investment teams and the Post26 Office Leadership Team. It is critical you are comfortable interfacing with Business stakeholders, as well as technical counterparts, translating between the two. The PSO is a new function and not all roles & responsibilities are fully defined which is why it is critical to be able to work in a somewhat ambiguous environment. You will have a background working in large PMO teams as well as strong knowledge of Lean, Agile and traditional delivery methodologies. 

You’ll also need   

  • Extensive experience in the EPMO/Corporate Strategy sphere working at a Senior / Supervisory level.
  • Expert understanding of the commercial and planning requirements of a large digital organisation.
  • Background in financial planning at a project portfolio level.
  • Proven ability to work in Finance and/or large PMO teams with experience implementing robust processes. 
  • Experience assisting projects and / or proven successful performance in running scheduling, resource, or demand functions for multi-faceted, multi-year streams of work.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in handling large sets of data for statistical analysis and forecast trends to identify turning points in resource capacity and demand.
  • Strong knowledge Project Management Office activities including status reporting, benefits tracking, dependencies and sequencing.
