  • Ability to work at varying levels of detail, from high level component/logical architecture to low level detail design.

  • Technical leadership across a range of complex transformation projects, including the creation Architecture artefacts, migration, and implementation plans.

About the Portfolio

The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences. The Portfolio incorporates the following business units:  Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, Experience, Human Resources, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Property Services Group (PSG). The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe.  Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

The Architecture and Solutions group is accountable for the successful delivery of all architecture related services across blueprints, solutions and governance. These services deliver strategic alignment, capability enhancement and assurance to standards.

The Role

The Enterprise Architect (EA) is a key member of the Architecture & Software Engineering group. They are responsible for leading enterprise responses to disruptive forces by identifying and analysing the execution of change toward desired business vision and outcomes. The enterprise architect role leads, prioritises and develops the overall enterprise architecture discipline for RMIT University, collaborating with IT Services groups as well as with business and IT leaders. The EA is responsible for taking a practical approach to supporting the business.

The EA will develop, maintain and govern the enterprise architecture across the University, including Reference Architecture, blueprints and roadmaps and technology/platform strategies. Enterprise Architects play a crucial role in Solution Architecture, guiding and developing platform and solution level architecture as required.

The EA will bring to RMIT a pragmatic, modern and connected approach to collaborate and engage stakeholders across the organisation, ensuring our architecture prepares us to our future and further progresses RMIT’s strategic goals.

Skills & Experience

  • Three+ years of experience as an Enterprise Architect in large, complex organisations

  • Able to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Highly collaborative and supportive of business and of its ideas and strategies. Comfortable, experienced, and accomplished at working with senior business executives, and able to push back in a professional and diplomatic way.

  • General maturity across EA frameworks, how and where to apply them in a practical context.

  • Understanding and conveying the value of enterprise architecture; manage stakeholder expectations with sensitivity.

  • Familiarity with EA modelling tools. Experience with Essential Cloud an advantage.

  • Understanding of data architecture including conceptual and logical modelling, DQM, MDM, and data policy and lifecycle management. Amazon AWS data infrastructure, Informatica would be an advantage.

  • Understanding of integration architecture including ESB, ETL/ELT, microservices, APIs and API lifecycle management. MuleSoft would be an advantage.

  • Understanding of institutional research, research administration platforms, and digital research infrastructure.

  • Understanding of building and facilities management systems and connected digital/physical environments.

  • Understand of higher education student management systems. Workday, Salesforce, Campus Solutions, Canvas advantageous.

  • Conceptual understanding of digital asset management, knowledge/document/records management, CRM, ERP, LMS, Commerce, CDP, cyber, IDAM, cloud infrastructure, DQM, MDM fit together to create value for the enterprise.

  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies, platforms and processing environments.

  • Deep technical understanding and exposure to Data and Analytics platforms.

  • Experience working as Enterprise Data Architect or related roles.

  • Practical in approach to decision making and problem solving that is principle-based.

  • Good understanding of strategic and new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models. Able to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.

  • Good understanding of product management, agile principles and development methodologies and capability of supporting agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact, and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt

  • Knowledge and experience in TOGAF, experience in implementing and managing Enterprise Architecture tools such as Essentials or similar.

  • Previous experience in PeopleSoft and Workday is considered advantageous.
