About the role

An exciting newly created role, the Head of Food is a key leadership role heading up the prestigious Are Media food division, including brands like The Australian Women’s Weekly, New Idea and Better Homes & Gardens. The key purpose of this role is to identify, ideate, manage and deliver new and existing revenue opportunities/projects for food content and assets across channels as aligned with the wider business strategy.

The Head of Food will be responsible for creating and managing schedules and workflow for Are Media food content creation projects across all platforms and brands to ensure the process is efficient and streamlined and content is created to a high standard in a timely manner.

Duties

  • Develop and drive editorial schedules for all projects within the food division and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Manage workflows including in-house and freelance resourcing across the food division and other omnichannel food projects
  • Manage P+Ls and ensure revenue and costs budgets are met.
  • Identify new ways of working across platforms and in collaboration with wider food teams to maximise efficiencies.
  • Evolve and drive the content commerce and affiliate food strategy in line with the businesses key objectives.
  • Work closely with all relevant business stakeholders to identify new revenue opportunities utilising existing and new food content/products.
  • Manage food-related custom projects, including client relationship management.
  • Build a lean but strong omnichannel department through upskilling team and streamlining work practices.
  • Effectively manage the food content team and act as a change champion and values ambassador for the team.
  • Review/oversee all content created by the food division and ensure standards and brand values are upheld.
  • Engage, brief and direct recipe developers, shoot/video teams etc (internal & external) as required.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Managing Editor, and Video team to create and drive an effective video strategy across the vertical.

Skills and experience

The role requires the skills to take on Food Direction and other related duties on various products across the vertical as required and the ability to apply a strong content commerce focus. Working closely with Food Digital Managing Editor, Custom and Food Directors on planning and projects, strong stakeholder management and people leadership skills are essential.

  • 8+ years’ experience in consumer-focused food content creation/publishing.
  • Creative thinker who can identify and execute new ideas involving various stakeholders
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • A strategic mindset with a strong revenue/profit focus
  • Deadline management experience and aptitude
  • Strong leadership and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Omnichannel mindset with proven experience working on and creating in digital/social food environments.
  • Adaptive, self-aware, nimble to shift new verticalizations and ways of working
  • Proven track record as an effective people leader
  • Understanding of content commerce models in the food space
