Government Relations Lead - Full time permanent role - Sydney CBD - Working within Uniting's Advocacy & Media team

The Closing date for all applications is 5pm, Friday, July 26th   

Base salary of $151,000 plus super = $168, 365 PLUS NFP salary packaging benefits

  • Lead strategic government relations initiatives for Uniting - Develop and improve interaction with all levels of Government to further advocacy priorities
  • Work with internal Uniting stakeholders at the highest level including direct interaction with the Executive Director and Board
  • Opportunity to represent Uniting in a positive light at the highest level to external stakeholders.
  • Base Salary + Super and NFP Salary Packaging Benefits (extra $18,550 tax-free) - Take home more pay

Role purpose As the Government Relations Lead, you will play a crucial role in developing, coordinating, and implementing government relations strategies and activities to support Uniting's advocacy goals and service needs. Based in Sydney CBD, you will work closely with the Advocacy and Media team, ensuring alignment with Uniting's objectives and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement government relations strategy aligned with Uniting's advocacy goals.
  • Supervise and support team members in executing government relations plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Provide expert guidance on government relations opportunities and manage crises effectively.
  • Analyse and report on government relations outcomes to review strategy effectiveness.
  • Manage and develop a team to deliver on strategic government relations objectives.
  • Proactively analyse government decision-making processes and legislative developments.
  • Provide government relations support across the organisation, offering advice and assistance as required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key government officials and stakeholders.
  • Increase transparency, consistency, and strategy around government relations activities across the organisation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in government relations or related field, including 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills with the ability to identify government relations opportunities.
  • Experience in developing networks and partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of policy, media, and government-related campaign coordination.
  • Ability to work with and engage a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in using digital tools for government relations and advocacy.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours when required and travel domestically as needed.

  • Understanding of the ethos and structures of the Uniting Church.
