This opportunity
The Government Relations Manager's role is to protect and enhance the reputation of TPG Telecom by:

  • Developing and implementing Government Relations strategies to promote TPG Telecom and its products, services and people.
  • Executing proactive engagement strategies to ensure TPG Telecom's policy position is well understood by Government, regulators, the industry and our customers.
  • Engaging with Local, State and Federal Government stakeholders and industry groups to drive legislative reform.
  • Working closely with the Heads of Industry and Regulatory to assess and respond to policy and regulatory changes affecting the future growth of the Company and broader telecommunications operating environment.
  • Managing potential reputational and regulatory issues via direct engagement with State and Federal Government Departments.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage key stakeholders at all levels of Local, State and Federal Government.
  • Ability to act as the Company's public policy advocate in informed oneonone discussions with industry and Government stakeholders.
  • Monitor brand and regulatory risks via intelligence gathering and using sectoral and broader policy issues to shape the Government relations strategy.
  • Draft formal briefs, submissions, letters to Government stakeholders, arrange stakeholder meetings/briefings on behalf of the business and its executives.
  • Provide timely and regular updates to assist the broader TPG Telecom's External Affairs agenda on emerging issues and/or successful outcomes.
  • Provide strategic advice and insights to executives and senior management on matters related to Government.
  • Work collaboratively with the Regulatory, Industry and Media Relations teams to assess and respond to existing and proposed public policy and legislative issues.
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications and/or similar complex industry policies and operating environment.

Knowledge and experience

  • Ability to interpret and communicate public policy to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience with and understanding of Government and the legislative process.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at the senior adviser, chief of staff and executive level.
  • Proven ability to write briefs and messaging for senior management.
  • Highly motivated and able to operate independently.
  • Experience working in highly technical or legislatively dense industries, such as telco, technology, or infrastructure an advantage.
