**The opportunity we have available**:
We are seeking an APS6 Divisional Support Officer for the Surface Transport Emissions and Policy Divisional Support Unit (DSU).
The Divisional Support Officer is part of the DSU team that delivers executive support and manages divisional business and corporate related activities. These activities include coordination of: corporate coordination requests, governance, administered budget and reporting, business planning, recruitment, performance and annual reporting, and senate estimates preparation, briefing and questions on notice.
The Divisional Support Officer engages with the corporate areas of the department, and provides quality assurance and ensures consistency across the division on its corporate/financial obligations.
As part of the DSU you will have the opportunity to have direct exposure to Senior Executives and the breadth of departmental programs, policy and regulation. You will gain valuable experience in enabling services to further enhance your career and the opportunity to use your governance, human resource, financial and/or coordination expertise to support the team to deliver high quality services to the division.
You will help to establish and embed processes, practices and tools to operationalise corporate policies and procedures in the division. You will be part of a small team, building a service focused culture to meet the needs to the Senior Executive and division.
To succeed in this role you would have experience in government finance roles, or the ability to quickly learn financial processes, to assist the DSU to oversee the business of the division, including administered and departmental budgets. While the focus of your work is within the division, you will develop an outward view, and establish networks across divisions and corporate areas.
**What will you do?**:
We are looking for a team member to deliver provide high-quality financial information and strategic advice with a willingness to contribute to a service focused culture to support the division to deliver on its priorities.
Duties may include the following:
- Preparing monthly financial reporting at a program level, including the reconciliations of program spends and critical review of monthly budget variance commentary.
- Ensuring the appropriation profiles and allocation statuses for multiple programs are maintained.
- Assisting to prepare costings for New Policy Proposals.
- Briefs and responses for Senate Estimates hearings and Questions on Notice.
- Preparing financial inputs into the department's Corporate Plan, divisional Business Plans and Risk Register and the department's Annual Report.
- Providing advice to divisional staff and management around recruitment options and processes, including the engagement of labour hire resources.
- Assisting with basic procurement requests.
- Ad-hoc co-ordination requests as they arise, including those from Central Agencies, other Government Departments, Australian Government Ministers and third parties.
