AIMS researchers at our locations in Townsville, Darwin and Perth have access to the best tools and equipment like the National Sea Simulator, cutting edge laboratories and our fleet of research vessels.
About this Opportunity AIMS's Oceanographic Scientists perform essential activities that support Australia's Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS).
IMOS National Moorings Network comprises a series of national reference stations and regional moorings designed to monitor oceanographic phenomena in Australian coastal ocean waters such as boundary currents and cross shelf exchanges to better our understanding of the tropical marine environment and ecosystems and their response to change across Queensland and Northern Australia.
In this exciting role, you will be relied upon to provide high quality time series data streams from the IMOS moorings array through calibration, data processing and analysis.
Working in laboratory and (off-shore) field environments, you'll support scientific research through the application of your scientific and technical expertise in the operation and deployment of AIMS and IMOS Oceanographic and Meteorological instruments.

The successful candidate will be rewarded with:AOF Level 3 to 4 Salary ($64,793 to $94,034 per annum) depending on qualifications, skills and experience.15.4% superannuationGenerous leave provisionsFull-time, 3-year opportunityLocated in Townsville, Queensland About You You will have achieved your degree in physics, mathematics, physical oceanography, engineering or equivalent technical expertise in a related field, and will be able to reflect on your familiarity with a wide variety of marine instrumentation to demonstrate your:applied understanding of oceanography, which has impacted on the successful results you have achieve when using oceanographic and meteorological instrumentation, including: Current Meters, Tide Gauges, Wave Gauges, Bio-optical sensors, Weather Stations, CTDs and water sampling techniques;experience in MATLAB and/or Python computer programming, data analysis, database applications or equivalent, and working knowledge of electronic instrumentation and PC systems including efficient database entry;commitment to the practices and principles of Occupational Health and Safety, and specifically whilst on off-shore sea-going field trips often undertaken in demanding conditions for extended periods of time, and at moderate heights such as weather station masts, andorganisational skills with the capabilities to manage field-work logistics, planning and scheduling.
