
Group Claims Specialist

**Your role**:
You are a seasoned general insurance claims professional, with a background in handling Public Liability and Property Claims (ISR) within the insurance industry (General Insurance Product classes).
In this role you will liaise, interact and assist all internal and external stakeholders in respect of General Insurance claims management including the administration, coordination and reporting on insurance claims and related matters for The Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod. (The UCAPT(Q.) Insurance Programme.)
**Key responsibilities**:
- Management of a portfolio of general insurance related claims (liability, professional indemnity, industrial special risks etc.) end to end file management, including determination, assessment, negotiation and resolution.
- Interpretation of policy wordings to assess indemnity and coverage.
- Provision of advice to insured clients on indemnity, liability, quantum, reserving and resolution strategies.
- Liaise with various third-party providers including solicitors, loss adjusters, insurance brokers and barristers.
- Resolve claims within relevant church responsible body service instructions, Synod Insurance guidelines, and delegated authority
- Ensure service standards and response times always meet internal and external stakeholder expectations.
- Preparation and delivery of reports as requested and to assist with claims data and claim trends
- Handle insurance claim requests from internal customers and relevant external parties.
- Ensure that all filing and archiving of insurance claims records are in accordance with the manner required.
- Comply with the Insurance Code of Practice, Insurance Contracts Act and Legislative requirements.
- Identify fraud indicators and claims leakage issues and make recommendations as necessary.
- Administer and co-ordinate insurance claim tasks including recovery work/projects relevant to ensuring best practice and reduction of risk across the Queensland Synod.
- Undertake other duties as and when directed within the scope of the role and the capabilities of the incumbent.
**Selection criteria**:
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate Qualification &/or Diploma of Financial Services (General Insurance) (or progression towards completion) (preferred)
- Hold or have the ability to obtain ANZIIF Membership
- ANZIIF Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) certification
Experience and skills:
- Demonstrated experience at a high level in assessing and managing all aspects of insurance claims and negotiating with insurers and relevant persons to ensure the claims are processed as required.
- Experience in handling claims for the following General Insurance product classes - Particularly in the following classes:
- Public Liability
- Property (Industrial Special Risks)
- General insurance industry background with experience working in self-insured business model
- Sound Knowledge of the Insurance Code of Practice, Insurance Contracts and relevant legislation. Possess management and team leadership related experience and qualifications.
- Mature outlook with an ability to confidently address clients who are experiencing a period of stress or anxiety.
- Proven ability to make decisions with and without established guidelines which demonstrate strong analytical skills and are in accordance with the insurance legislation and the risk and compliance criteria operating within the Queensland Synod.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and written communication skills which reflect the capacity to deal with sensitive matters and liaise effectively, diplomatically and discretely at all levels within the Church, its agencies, community organisations and the general public.
- Demonstrated capacity to prepare reports and brief legal officers as required and maintain confidentiality and Privacy in relation to personal details of written materials, information and issues associated with the claim matter being addressed.
- Proven ability to negotiate in mediated or conciliated matters.
- Be personable with a commitment to building strong relationships with key stakeholders/customers across the Church and its agencies, boards and committees of the Synod.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, timeliness, analytical and focused on outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to act with impartiality and honesty.
- Willing to commit to working with the purpose and values of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod and adhering to the policies, organisational requirements and processes.
**Additional requirements**:
- The successful applicant must be eligible to legally work in Australia and proof of eligibility may be requested.
- Model the values of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod in day-to-day work including interactions with managers, lay staff, ministry agents, clients and stakeholders.
