About this role:
As an Aboriginal Islander Wellbeing Education Officer you will assist with the development, implementation and delivery of planned mindful movement programs in metro and remote regions.
Working closely with the Indigenous Outreach Lead, you will champion our Deadly Minds outreach programs, helping to identify schools, communities and regions in need, develop and adapt mindful movement based programs relevant to both educational and cultural needs and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with social emotional wellbeing education.
Your key objective is to maximise awareness and training opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, helping individuals to learn the skills to identify and respond to stress, manage emotions and support community and self care for Social Emotional Wellbeing.
The AIWEO will work closely alongside the Yogazeit team to educate and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with trauma-informed Yoga teacher trainings to support the future generations with skills for life.
**Key responsibilities**:
Community Liaison - establish links with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to promote the importance of improving health outcomes and encourage and support the promotion of Deadly Minds
Administration and Support - assist the Aboriginal Outreach Lead to identify barriers to participation in Mindful Movement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Train and Educate 50 Indigenous Youth Yoga Teachers within the next 12 months supporting career pathways, meaningful community engagement opportunities and revitalising cultural connection through mindfulness and movement.
**Selection criteria**:
- To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, parents, community members and professional staff on the provision and development of culturally-relevant educational mindful movement (yoga) programs.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact on a range of levels in a variety of settings and with different audiences, including community members, teaching and other professionals.
- Ability to contribute to the Yogazeit team and provide multicultural direction in the development of the Indigenous Outreach activities, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and mindful movemen implementation
- Strong organisation skills including the ability to use initiative, set priorities and to plan and act to achieve desired outcomes within specific timeframes
- Passion and commitment to effectively assist the Yogazeit team in implementing mindful movement programs in metro and regional areas
**Other**:
- Cert III or IV in Mental Health, Community Services, Education Assistant or similar and/or equivalent knowledge and experience within the sector
- Knowledge of and affinity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, community and connection to country
- Experience working with Aboriginal people experiencing Social & Emotional Well-being issues
- A good understanding of the National Aboriginal Social & Emotional Well-being Framework
