YOKAI Healing our Spirit is a Stolen Generations led organisation working to achieve Truth, Justice and Healing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and culture.

We collaborate with stakeholders including Survivors, aboriginal communities, and government partners to deliver culturally safe programs and advocacy grounded in listening, connection, and collective strength.

The Wellbeing Support Officer will work to deliver the following:

Duties:

  • Provide up to date information and emotional support to survivors and their families enquiring about redress process.
  • Assist survivors with application process if requested.
  • Work with a strengths-based approach to address specific needs of survivors and work in collaboration with the Social Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator and broader Yokai team.
  • Provide brief intervention and support to clients who are at risk of psychosocial distress or experiencing low acuity concerns. Within the worker's expertise and skills, identify immediate risks and needs, explore possible interventions and facilitate referrals.
  • Providing education and preventative tools to help Elders protect themselves from financial abuse, coercion, scams, and undue influence.
  • Provide social emotional wellbeing support that is sensitive and responsive to the needs of Stolen Generations survivors and their families.

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people and the ability to communicate effectively and in a culturally appropriately manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards, and trends in the delivery of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated awareness and knowledge of issues impacting on those affected by Stolen Generations' policies and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and maintain strict confidentiality guidelines and policies.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds to both obtain and convey information relevant to their care.

  • Awareness of and can work to Bringing Them Home WA's mission of truth, justice and healing as well as West Australia Stolen Generation's Aboriginal Corporation's strategic objectives.

  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, with an ability to plan, manage and prioritise tasks and resources to deliver outcomes within time and budget considerations.

Desirable:

  • Identify as Aboriginal.
  • Current or previous experience working in a mental health setting.
  • Current or previous experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.
  • Cert III or IV qualification or above relevant to the role.
