- The Statewide Vision Resource Centre (SVRC) supports Victorian children and young people who are blind or partially sighted to access and engage with school-based learning. We do this by providing students with specialised teaching, support, materials, and technologies. We also equip school staff, Visiting Teachers, and families across Victoria by providing personalised advice, training, and resources. Our mission is to provide leadership in blind and low vision education, enabling access, inclusion, and lifelong learning.
- SVRC was established in 1983 by the Victorian Department of Education and Training. We are the leading centre of expertise in blindness and low vision education services, supporting eligible students in Government, Catholic and Independent schools. Our staff are committed to providing specialised and professional assistance, information and resources for students, schools, Visiting Teachers, and family members. We are located on the grounds of and administratively managed through the Heatherwood School, in the eastern metropolitan suburb of Donvale.

**Selection Criteria**:

- SC1 Demonstrated ability to transcribe student learning materials using contracted braille codes (e.g., literary, mathematics, foreign languages etc.), braille translation software and/or to produce tactile illustrations.
- SC2 Demonstrated highly developed organisational and administrative skills with a demonstrated ability to utilise effective time, management strategies, establish priorities, and to meet deadlines.
- SC3 Demonstrated commitment to work as a supportive and collaborative team member, with an ability to work in teams, maintain confidentiality, adapt to, and manage change in the workplace.
- SC4 Demonstrated highly developed technology skills, including proficient keyboard skills and competency in using Microsoft Office and other software and hardware as relevant to the position.
- SC5 Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning to enable further development of skills, expertise and professional capacity to self and others.

**Role**:

- The Statewide Vision Resource Centre¿s Production Department produces materials in alternative formats including braille, large print, audio, and e-text. Transcriptions are produced at the request of Visiting Teachers and schools for use by students who are blind or partially sighted. Eligible students across Government, Catholic and Independent Schools are able to use SVRC¿s service at no cost throughout their time at school.
- A vacancy exists within the Production Department for a transcription officer. The successful applicant will work with a team of nine other transcribers, producing accessible materials for students across Victoria.

**Responsibilities**:

- Responsibilities for this position include:

- Production of student learning materials in accessible formats
- Production of tactile illustrations, manually and on a computer
- Operation of a photocopier; stereo-copier; thermo-form machine; scanner; braille embosser and cutter; in order to copy, bind and distribute materials
- Working collaboratively with other transcription staff to meet deadlines and produce quality materials in a timely manner
- Using specialised computer software, including Duxbury and Corel draw
- Record keeping and maintenance of appropriate records
- Liaising with Visiting Teachers and school personnel in relation to work for students
- Provision of word processing and administrative support for SVRC programs and services
- Other duties as required
