**About Language Services**
- The Language Services Office is equipped with 16 telephone lines across the Repat and Austin Campuses and is open Mon - Fri 8:30am - 4:30pm. For patients with limited English proficiency or who use sign language, interpreters play an essential role in ensuring access to services and meaningful participation in the care they receive at Austin Health. It is not appropriate to use family members to interpret. Family members are emotionally involved, have no training and there is no guarantee that information will be relayed accurately and in its entirety.

**About the role**
- The casual Mandarin Cantonese Interpreter sits within the Language Services Department which reports to the Manager of Language Services. The Language Services Department has offices at both the Austin and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital campuses. Where required for face-to-face interpreting, interpreters travel to appointments using the free shuttle bus, which is available between the Austin and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital campuses.
- A regular day will see you:

- Interpret for patients and Austin Health staff. Maintain accurate statistics of interpreting work undertaken on the (Interpreter Management System) IMS in a timely manner - training will be provided
- Work collaboratively with Austin Health staff to ensure a timely and effective service
- Assist administration staff with allocations of appointments (time permitting).

**About you**
- As the Mandarin Cantonese Interpreter you will be someone who has excellent communication skills with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You will bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
- To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

- NAATI Certified Mandarin Interpreter Level (Applicants without any valid NAATI credentialings will be disqualified)
- Certified provisional interpreters with extensive medical experience may be considered
- Extensive vocabulary in certified languages and knowledge of medical and health terminology
- Experience as a Certified Interpreter in a medical setting.
- Desirable but not essential:
NAATI Certified Cantonese Interpreter (Certified provisional interpreters with extensive medical experience may be considered)-
NAATI Certified Chinese Translator-
