**About the Role**:
The Volunteer Tutor Scheme is required under the AMEP contract and delivers an informal program providing language assistance through trained volunteers, usually on a one-to-one basis in a mutually convenient location or remotely via phone or digital platforms.
The Volunteer Tutor Scheme Officer's role is to promote the program across the five contract regions. This role supports all work within the VTS program regarding promotion, recruitment and engagement of volunteers.

**Duties**:

- To assist with promotional activities including advertising in local press, attendance at relevant network meetings and community events, to publicise the Volunteer Tutor Scheme and facilitate the recruitment of volunteers through the Melbourne AMEP contract region.
- Assist in promoting the VTS to all Melbourne AMEP Consortium site coordinators and teachers to ensure eligible clients are referred to the program.
- Assess suitability of potential tutors for the Volunteer Tutor Scheme, including arranging eligibility checks such as Police Checks and Working with Children's Checks, and provide an induction to the program.
- Support the enrolment and facilitation of VTS Training and post-training professional development workshops.

**Skills and Experience Required**:

- A background in community development or related field; extensive knowledge and experience in coordinating volunteer programs and demonstrated skills in working in a cross-cultural environment. High-level skills in recruiting, inducting, supporting and managing volunteers and assisting with the ongoing review and delivery of appropriate training to support their role.
- Sound understanding of strategies relevant to addressing the needs of AMEP clients, knowledge in the education and settlement needs of recently-arrived refugees and migrants, and skills in supporting volunteers in a cross-cultural environment.
- Highly effective communication skills, interpersonal and team skills, excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work in a self-directed manner, and the ability to exercise sound judgement.
