Communications And Engagement Advisor

Exciting opportunity to join the second largest municipality in Melbourne's metropolitan west. Located about 20 kms from the central business district, Brimbank City Council is culturally diverse.
We are currently seeking a full time permanent Communication and Engagement Advisor to join a supportive team of communication and engagement professionals.

**The role**
Reporting to the Coordinator Communications, we are seeking a Communication and Engagement Advisor who can bring their skills and experience for:

- providing internal consultancy and strategic advice on communications and engagment across the organisation
- preparing and implementing a range of commuication activities to enhance Council's reputation
- promoting projects, events and activities to ensure these Council services and initiatives are widely understood
- media liaison, including identifying and developing positive media opportunities and issues management
- preparing and delivering communication and engagement plans
- developing publications, online content and speeches
- making complex information easy to understand

**About you**
To succeed in this role, you will have:

- Local government experience (desirable)
- Several years' experience in a similar role
- A passion for community

- Essential : Experience and achievement in working in or with the media and an excellent understanding of how the media operates
- Essential : Achievement in developing and implementing successful communication and engagement plans and media activities for proactive and reactive issues
- Essential : Ability to provide specialist advice to senior stakeholders in media, communication and engagement opportunities and issues
- Essential : Ability to plan and alter communication materials to engage and reach different audiences
- Essential : Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines
- Essential : Ability to co-operate with and gain support of staff at all levels and the ability to work in a complex political environment
- Essential : Knowledge of local government and understanding of the sensitivities of working in a political environment
- Essential : Experience in producing a range of publications such as newsletters, brochures, promotional material and corporate documents such as Annual Reports
