The Queensland Synod is the state council of the Uniting Church who come together every 18 months for Synod in Session - a meeting to discern together and make decisions for the management of the Synod.
The Office of the Synod's purpose is to act upon the discernment of the Synod, to enable, equip and encourage a renewing and growing Church across Queensland. We are mission-driven, service-orientated and relationally focussed.
**Position purpose**:
- The purpose of this role is to lead the Synod Support Services for Presbyteries, to be the primary liaison point for Presbytery leadership in relation to Synod Support Services, to develop, implement and support a sustainable and effective delivery of Synod Support Services.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide leadership with the Secretariat function for Synod Support Services to Presbyteries.
- To sit on the Presbytery Synod Interface group adding value in relation to the provision of Synod Support Services.
- Lead the provision of high quality, reliable and solution focused Synod Support Services by business partnering, advisory and support services that effectively facilitate the implementation of Synod Support Services in Presbyteries.
- To co-create with each Presbytery a model for the effective delivery of Synod Support Services.
- To oversee the Synod Support Service Team within Presbyteries by improving capability of the Team to deliver Synod Support Services.
- Develop and implement strategies and associated processes, systems, and infrastructure required to support Presbytery Support Services.
- Ensure an effective working relationship and mutually beneficial partnership arrangement between the Synod Office and key Presbytery leadership in relation to Synod Support Services.
- Provide leadership including coaching and mentoring to members of the Synod Support Services in Presbyteries to develop capability and foster a supportive and collaborative team environment.
- Model the values of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod in day-to-day work including interactions with managers, lay staff, ministry agents, stakeholders, and those we serve.
**Key performance indicators**:
This role is a member of the Synod Secretariat and reports to the Executive Director of the Synod Secretariat. It is responsible for providing leadership to ensure that the Synod Support Services in Presbyteries are effective and high impact, additionally that:
- There is an increase in efficiency of Synod Support Services provided to Presbyteries.
- Emerging challenges are identified, especially those that may impact on core missional and business delivery and responses developed to minimise risk and take advantage of opportunities.
- Managing stakeholder relationships ensuring prompt and effective resolutions to emerging issues, and effective communication between the Synod Office and Presbytery leadership.
- Working within the Synod Office to build capacity in delivering effective and efficient processes, systems and communication for Synod Support Services.
**Selection criteria**:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Business Administration or other relevant and equivalent post qualification discipline.
Experience and skills:
- A commitment to, and understanding of, the ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia (for a fuller understanding of the ethos of the church, refer to_The Basis of Union_).
- Demonstrated experience in the leadership of small teams and the effective development of shared services or corporate services function.
- Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing new programs and initiatives with effective stakeholder engagement.
