Bookkeeping Specialist

The role of a bookkeeping specialist is to provide high-quality financial management services to congregations and presbyteries across the Queensland Synod.

  1. Provide timely and accurate bookkeeping services, including financial system administration queries.
  2. Coach and liaise with congregation treasurers and key users to resolve various accounting issues.
  3. Work closely with the Mission Relations Accountant to support a smooth transition and uptake of Xero software, as well as for day-to-day support for bookkeeping activities.
  4. Complete regular or periodic reconciliation of congregation and presbytery accounts and contributions, ensuring accurate reflection and reporting into the financial system.
  5. Manage, control, and monitor access and use of the financial accounting and reporting system, according to existing financial reporting structure.
  6. Liaise with congregation and presbytery auditors to answer queries and provide additional information.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary financial qualifications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Xero software, ideally for a small to medium-sized organisation.
  • Excellent reporting skills, with the ability to present and speak about qualitative/quantitative data to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong numeracy skills and understanding of accounting principles.
  • Extremely focussed on client service within the Synod office and its stakeholders.
  • Ability to acquire and utilise the Uniting Church congregational and presbyteries' financial and organisational structures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
