Organisational Context
east Victoria across an area of 20,000 square kilometres.
The service delivery area is bound by Corryong, Yarrawonga,
Benalla and Dartmouth.
We operate 21 water treatment facilities and 22 wastewater treatment plants that service most
towns across the region.
Over 200 full time equivalent staff are employed at our centres in Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla,
Yarrawonga, Corryong, Beechworth, Mount Beauty and Myrtleford.
Our operations are overseen by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) on behalf of the
Minister for Water, and the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) on behalf of the Treasurer.

Position Objectives
The Operator Mechanical Wastewater Treatment:
Operations: Consistently executes mechanical wastewater treatment tasks, ensuring smooth and efficient
operations while minimising disruptions and upholding system integrity.
Safety & Compliance: Adheres to all safety protocols and standards, maintaining a strong record of safety and
compliance in all mechanical wastewater treatment operations.
Team Collaboration & Reporting: Collaborates effectively within the mechanical wastewater treatment team as
part of a flexible, multi-skilled team that is adaptive to the work requirements.
Ensures timely data input into systems and prompt reporting of operational trends and issues to senior roles.
Key Responsibility Areas
Operational Execution: Execute daily operations as directed, ensuring consistent mechanical wastewater treatment
throughout the region.
Monitor systems and promptly address minor issues to ensure optimal performance.
Including participation in a 7-day rotating on call roster.
Data Entry & Reporting: Input operational data into systems such as AMIS, GIS, Nintex and SCADA as required.
Provide initial reporting on any noticeable trends or issues.
Emergency Assistance: Support the response team during mechanical wastewater treatment emergencies, acting
swiftly under the guidance of senior roles to minimize disruptions and maintain compliance.
Routine Maintenance: Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks, inspections, and checks on the mechanical
wastewater treatment systems to ensure they are in optimal condition.
Safety Protocols: Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Report any safety concerns to the senior
operator or coordinator and always ensure personal and team safety.
Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the team, assisting fellow operators and taking guidance from the
Senior Operator and Mechanical Wastewater Treatment Coordinator.
Participate in training sessions and team
meetings.
Stakeholder Communication: Report any customer feedback or concerns to the senior operator or coordinator.
Assist in communicating with the public during routine operations or emergencies as needed.
Resource Management: Efficiently use and maintain equipment, tools, and materials required for mechanical
wastewater treatment operations, reporting any damages or needs for replacements.
Other: Perform overtime and undertake additional tasks as needed, consistent with the role's level and the
individual's skills and experience.
Asset & Infrastructure Management: Responsible for the operation and fault response to the authority's
mechanical treatment systems including inlet works, aeration assets, storages and discharge facilities.
Organisational Relationships
This role reports to the Coordinator Mechanical Wastewater Treatment and liaises with all internal stakeholders, peers in
water corporations or local government, government agencies and members of the public.
Accountability and Extent of Authority
Accountable to the Mechanical Wastewater Treatment Coordinator for the performance of
responsibilities and duties.
Accountability: Responsible for the hands-on execution of mechanical wastewater treatment tasks, accurate data
entry, adherence to operational procedures, and maintaining safety standards during daily operations.
Authority: Execute tasks as instructed.
Utilise AMIS, GIS, and SCADA for day-to-day operations and data entry.
Alert senior roles of any system anomalies or potential issues.
Contribute to team discussions by providing on-
ground insights and observations.
Report any safety concerns immediately and suggest improvements based on
operational experience.
Judgement and Decision Making
Uses judgment to carry out tasks efficiently, ensuring correct data input into AMIS, GIS, and SCADA.
Quickly
identifies and reports any operational or data inconsistencies.
Makes day-to-day decisions based on operational procedures, prioritising safety and the stability of the mechanical
wastewater treatment network.
Relies on training and experience to navigate routine challenges and consults with
superiors on more complex issues.
Specialist skills and knowledge
Knowledge and expertise in Activated Sludge Process (ASP) wastewater treatment operations.
Demonstrates capability in conducting routine system checks and data entries, ensuring accurate and efficient
reporting.
Familiar with the operation and basic troubleshooting of AMIS, GIS, and SCADA systems.
Experience in wastewater treatment sampling and testing activities.
Experience operating plant and machinery essential for mechanical wastewater treatment activities.
Adheres to
established safety and operational standards.
Management Skills
Exhibits effective self-management by prioritising and completing tasks on schedule.

Qualifications and Experience
Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or substantial experience in the water industry and demonstrated
progress towards achieving these qualifications.
Current Driver's license which includes medium rigid truck License.
High risk work licenses and/or competencies.
