**Position**: Employment Advisor
**Program Area**: Employment Service
**Purpose / Objective**
Employment Advisors volunteer in the ASC Employment Hub, providing one-on-one support to people seeking asylum as they strive to achieve their employment, training and education goals.
**Reports to**:
Employment Service Manager
**Commitment Period**:

- Minimum 6 months

**Commitment Requested**:5 hours / week

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Support people who attend the ASC Employment Hub to:

- Develop resumes and cover letters, utilising ASC templates
- s and build job search skills
- Develop online profiles e.g. Seek, Jora, LinkedIn
- Prepare for job interviews
- Complete pre-employment paperwork
- Identify and/or enrol in relevant work readiness and training opportunities
- Collect and record information in our database about a person's education and training, skills and experience, English proficiency and readiness for work
- Link people with relevant internal and external supports or services as appropriate
- Provide assistance from a people-centred and strengths-based perspective
- Record the details of your meetings in our database and keep records updated
- Engage in peer-to-peer briefing and debriefing sessions with fellow volunteers and ASC staff to continually improve our Service
- Attend team meetings and training sessions, generally once every two months

**Selection Criteria**
- A sound understanding of the Australian job seeking and employment landscape
- Strong customer service and communication skills including active listening, relationship building, problem-solving, efficiency, empathy and collaboration
- Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and cultures
- An understanding of issues affecting people seeking asylum in Australia
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, trauma-informed practice
- Intermediate computer skills; confidence using Google products (Mail, Calendar and Drive) and confidence using (or willingness and ability to learn) how to use a database
- Ability to work collaboratively and thoughtfully with other team members
- Flexibility and willingness to think outside the box and take initiative
- Ability to adhere to our code of conduct and boundaries and confidentiality policies
- Strong prioritisation and time management skills, and attention to detail
- Experience in coaching, mentoring and/or training is beneficial

- Comply with Work, Health and Safety systems
- Comply with Incident Management Procedures and Emergency protocols
- Demonstrate respectful and welcoming behaviour with all people at ASC in culturally appropriate ways
- Have received at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Support a child-safe organisation by undertaking an NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement and ensuring it is up-to-date
