About the role:
Reporting to the Principal Health Scientist, you will support delivery of environmental public health functions as they relate to human health impacts from past, present and potential future pollution. This includes supporting the development of the HIA function, coordinating the development of procedures and tools for the management of public health information, and providing public health advice to prevent and respond to harm to Victorian communities from pollution and waste.
This is a senior role for an experienced epidemiologist, biostatistician or health impact assessor that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA.
In this role you will:
- At the Principal Health Scientist's direction, contribute to advice relating to the assessment and management of impacts from waste and pollution, including identifying and investigating established and emerging environmental health trends.
- Working with the Principal Health Scientist, develop, expand and embed Environmental Public Health functions at EPA, including the HIA function.
- Develop relationships across the EPA and external to EPA (e.g. Department of Health) to identify environmental public health data and stakeholder needs; identify relevant environmental health indicators and measures, and appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
- Lead the development of new tools and processes for public health data management, governance, dissemination and visualisation.
- Use public health knowledge to critically analyse data and investigate trends in environmental public health; provide communications on the data that inform and support public health actions to protect Victorians from the adverse health effects of pollution and waste.
Skills and experience:
- A relevant tertiary degree and post graduate qualifications in environmental epidemiology, biostatistics, health impact assessment or a related public health discipline.
- Experience in the management and analysis of large datasets, particularly those related to public health.
- Leadership experience in managing projects, preferably within Government.
- Highly developed data and statistical analysis skills applied to environmental public health.
- Strong understanding of theory and methods relating to the design of epidemiological studies and statistical analyses.
