Job Title: Principal Epidemiologist

This is a senior position within the Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance team in the Health Protection Branch. The role provides expert epidemiological advice and support to enhance public health outcomes through the analysis of data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake communicable disease projects focusing on advanced data and analytics.
  • Initiate research and analysis consistent with Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to inform policy decisions using surveillance data.
  • Advise on policy options regarding communicable diseases epidemiology and surveillance.
  • Provide expert and strategic advice to senior departmental staff on new and emerging communicable diseases or public health risks.
  • Plan, develop, and manage high-level surveillance of notifiable communicable diseases in Victoria.
  • Negotiate and liaise with stakeholders and peers for advanced data and analytics on communicable diseases.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification in epidemiology.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in communicable disease surveillance and epidemiology.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analytics such as data linkage.
