**What you'll be doing**

The Westmead Mother and Baby Unit is a new specialist inpatient mental health facility designed to provide assessment and treatment for women with severe mental health problems in pregnancy and up until a child is one year old. The Mother Baby Unit provides innovative, holistic and best practice multidisciplinary care that is parent and infant centred, family and carer inclusive, and culturally sensitive.

The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician has a key role in the care, welfare and assistance of Aboriginal people accessing mental health services, both in the hospital setting and within the community. This position is based at Westmead Mother Baby Unit and forms part of a multidisciplinary service. The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician will assist in the planning and implementation of any admission, treatment, case management, referral, discharge and follow up for Aboriginal people utilising the Mother Baby Unit.
The Mother Baby Unit is a State-wide Unit meaning that referrals will be accepted from across NSW. Therefore, the Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician may be required to facilitate communication with services outside of the Local Health District.

**Essential Requirements**
- Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Nursing/ Psychology/ Social Work/ Occupational Therapy or Health Science (Mental Health - Djirruwang Graduate).
- Registration: Full Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/ Psychologist/ Occupational Therapist or for Social Workers eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Evidence of Diversity Claim: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Be Female and of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) and Section 31 of the Anti-discrimination Act NSW 1977).
- Demonstrated understanding of the impact of mental illness in the perinatal timeframe.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community and knowledge of the Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing, including an understanding of Aboriginal family structure and Aboriginal culture and wisdom.
