Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Specialist

About the Role

Mental health clinicians play a vital role in providing specialist support to individuals and families experiencing mental health issues. As a perinatal and infant mental health clinician, you will be working with parents and their infants who are experiencing significant mental health challenges.

The ideal candidate will have extensive postgraduate clinical experience in mental health, with a focus on perinatal mental health. You will be able to provide high-level clinical advice and develop educational tools or programs to support service excellence.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide time-limited, intensive specialist perinatal and infant mental health support through direct patient care and consultation for severe or complex perinatal mental health disorders.
  • Support parents and their infants who are experiencing significant mental health issues, focusing on parent-infant relationships and infant development.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver service excellence and contribute to program development, education tools, and quality improvement initiatives.
Selection Criteria / Qualifications
  • Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, or Psychology qualifications with relevant postgraduate clinical experience in mental health.
  • Extensive postgraduate clinical experience in mental health, with experience working with families of infants where parents face severe and complex psychosocial and psychiatric problems in the perinatal period.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and advocacy skills; ability to interact constructively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply advanced reasoning and independent professional judgement in novel or complex situations.
