Develop and promote organisational health and safety initiatives, including activities to optimise the awareness, preparedness, safety, protection, injury prevention and the general health and well-being of QAS staff.Ensure injured workers are contacted and provided with appropriate support in the earliest timeframe possible post injury.Provide guidance to injured workers and regional management in relation to Workcover processes.Liaise with medical practitioners to determine an injured worker's capability for duty and develop supportive return to work plans designed to return an injured worker to the workforce in an appropriate timeframe.Provide case management services for injured workers who are unable to continue in their substantive position. Provide high level advice and guidance to the regional management team on workplace health and safety policies and procedures, particularly those relating to fitness for duty and medical retirement.Provide advice and support to the regional management team to assist with fostering a culture of workplace health and safety excellence, in order to achieve zero harm within the workplace. Design, develop and implement best practice safety procedures and systems and maintain a strong focus on health and well-being to support the staff and volunteers of the region.Contribute to the development and implementation of the regional workplace health and safety risk register and plan.Monitor and identify injury and workplace health and safety trends and risks occurring in the region and provide guidance on these issues.Collaborate with the QAS Workplace Health and Safety Unit and external workplace health and safety organisations and stakeholders to ensure the region is compliant with state and federal legislation and reporting requirements.Facilitate investigations of workplace health and safety incidents in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures and develop processes surrounding workplace inspections and the documentation of investigation reports.Develop the skills and capability of elected regional workplace health and safety representatives by facilitating the delivery of appropriate training courses and providing guidance and support in regard to undertaking investigations into reported incidents and near misses.Support the regional management team in developing performance guidelines and appropriate metrics to measure and achieve effective workplace health and safety outcomes. Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Public Service and QAS values.
