**The role and what we are looking for**

Reporting to the Head of HR & Safety, this role is responsible for building, planning and actively promoting a culture of safety and wellbeing. The Safety & Wellbeing Specialist will influence and support internal stakeholders to drive health and safety initiatives. This role will be instrumental in developing, implementing and maintaining Workplace Health & Safety (WHS), injury management and wellness capability across the organisation.

**Responsibilities**:
**Work health & safety**:

- Provide specialist advice, support, and make recommendations in line with current WHS legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Review Capricorn's risk incident register, providing advice and implementing changes and improvements to controls within agreed authority.
- Role model and champion health, safety, and wellness behaviours.
- Influence and partner with key stakeholders to build WHS capability, progress our health and safety strategy and drive quality outcomes.
- Monitor external sources and keep up to date with trends, best practice, and changes to legislation to inform recommended changes.
- Monitor WHS roles and certifications - Health and Safety Representatives, First Aid Officers, Mental Health First Aid Officers and Emergency Fire Wardens to ensure appropriate coverage and coordinate their training.
- Maintain relationships with external training organisations.
- Report to regulatory bodies as and when required.
- Provide advice regarding training and development programs in relation to safety management and work with the Learning and Development team to implement and improve training.
- Identify WHS operational training requirements and develop and deliver training and education material as required.
- Develop and deliver the new employee safety induction program.
- Conduct workplace risk assessments and inspections and provide support to leaders to.
- Recommend, analyse and measure safety metrics and implement continuous improvements measures.
- Participate in WHS audits and/or specialist WHS support to other divisions conducting audits.
- Manage and chair the WHS committee meetings, record minutes of meetings and update the Head of HR and Safety with recommended action items.

**Injury management**:

- Mitigate risk through the promotion of injury prevention and management.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments and coordinate orders for specialised equipment.
- Support managers and the SHRBP and HRBP in managing work health and safety issues including workers compensation claims.
- Investigate accidents and incidents and make recommendations for preventative action.
- Manage and maintain relationships with external injury management organisations.
- Develop and manage return to work programs.

**Wellness**:

- Provide proactive wellness insight and recommendations inline with current trends through research and relationship development with external providers.
- Develop and manage Capricorn's wellness program within allocated wellness budget.
- Manage, schedule and co-ordinate Capricorn's wellness calendar of activities.
- Tracking wellness costs against the allocated wellness budget and ensure budget is not exceeded.
- Recommend, analyse and measure wellbeing metrics and implement continuous improvements measures.
- Manage relationships with external providers of wellness program events, initiatives, and services.
- Act as the people representative in Capricorn's social committee to ensure all planned events are coordinated in compliance with Capricorn policies and guidelines and to ensure consideration has been given to WHS and diversity and inclusion.
- Provide proactive WHS insight and recommendations to improve policies, procedures, processes, manuals and forms and update documents accordingly.
