The Supportive and Palliative Care Unit of Monash Health is broad and varied, and operationally based at McCulloch House at Clayton. The unit is comprised of the following:

- A 16-bed inpatient palliative care unit at McCulloch House and 5-bed unit at Casey Hospital.
- The Palliative Care Consultancy Service - seeing patients at each Monash Health campus (Clayton, Dandenong, Casey, Moorabbin and Kingston)
- Outpatient Services - OncoPain Clinic (refractory cancer pain clinic), RAPID Service (palliative care inreach program), Palliative Care Hospital in the Home collaboration, Supportive Care Clinic and Palliative Care Virtual Clinics (telehealth)
- Research Support
- A specialist multidisciplinary team including pastoral care, music therapy, social work and a volunteer program

The Supportive and Palliative Care department is a designated integrated palliative care and oncology centre of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO). It is a Monash University academic unit with varied research interests, and an accredited site for advanced training in palliative medicine.

The broader unit is medically staffed by 9 consultants, 1 fellow, 4 registrars (undertaking advanced training in palliative medicine or a clinical diploma) as well as specialist psycho-oncology support and an intern based at McCulloch House. The service is further staffed by a number of skilled clinical nurse consultants across the multi-campus consultation liaison service, and a specialist multidisciplinary team within our inpatient units.

**About the Role**

This is a fixed term maternity leave cover opportunity to join our team. The appointee will be administratively accountable to the Director of Supportive and Palliative Care and the Medical Director of the Cancer Services Program at Monash Health (Prof William Sievert) for all clinical service delivery and clinical governance issues.

The role will be focused on palliative medicine provision within a consultation liaison site and service at Monash Health, however the consultant will have opportunity to be involved in a number of aspects of our service. Additional opportunities exist to support the Rapid Response Palliative Care Integrated Community Inreach Service to provide a bridge between inpatient care and the community, and to provide leave cover to clinics and inpatient palliative care duties as required.

The appointee will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective person centered care, provide teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and students, and participate in a rotating on-call roster for after hours support.

Please note - palliative medicine consultants may be required to work across all Monash Health campuses.

**What you need**:

- Be a legally qualified medical practitioner, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or an equivalent post-graduate qualification as recognised by the National Specialist Qualification Advisory Committee and be a member of the RACP's Chapter of Palliative Medicine or be eligible to be a member.
- Have appropriate academic credentials in palliative medicine.

Additionally expertise in refractory symptom management, consultative palliative care services, community palliative care and telehealth models is desirable.
