This role is vital in supporting our kitchen operations, ensuring all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste, presentation, and food safety.Duties and Responsibilities:Prepare, season, and cook a wide range of café and modern Australian dishes, including breakfast, brunch, and lunch items.Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.Coordinate, supervise, and collaborate with kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking.Bake, roast, grill, boil, and steam meats, seafood, vegetables, and other menu items.Wash, peel, cut, and prepare fruits and vegetables for salads, garnishes, and side dishes.Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and other cooking equipment.Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.Examine foodstuffs to ensure quality and freshness.Store food in temperature-controlled facilities, ensuring proper stock rotation.Portion and plate meals accurately, adding sauces, dressings, and garnishes to meet Café Court's presentation standards.Prepare food to meet special dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free).
Assist senior team members in developing new recipes and seasonal menu items.Estimate food consumption and assist with ordering supplies and managing stock levels.Perform additional tasks as required in a cook's role.Skills and QualificationsMinimum 1-year relevant work experience in a café or restaurant kitchen.Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or Kitchen Management.Strong knowledge of food hygiene, safety, and OH&S standards.Ability to work closely with management and kitchen staff to ensure consistent, high-quality service.Good communication and teamwork skills to support smooth kitchen operations.Strong attention to detail in food preparation, presentation, and portion control.Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.
