Canberra, ACT, Australia Department Of Veterans' Affairs Full time

Location: Canberra, ACT

**High-Profile Leadership Role in the Veterans' Affairs Portfolio**
- Help to deliver exceptional outcomes for Veterans and their families
- Provide key strategic policy advice and drive transformational change
- Statutory appointments with substantial remuneration package

The Repatriation Commissioner has a dual role. Firstly, as a full-time commissioner of the Repatriation Commission; and secondly, as a part-time member of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission. Both appointments are made by the Governor-General of Australia, for periods of up to five years.

The Commissions, through the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA), provide income support, compensation, health care, rehabilitation and other benefits and services for around 300,000 current and former members of the Australian Defence Force and their eligible dependants.

Key functions and duties of the Repatriation Commissioner include:

- Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation - participating and working closely as a member of the Commissions to provide services to veterans and members of the Australian Defence Force and their partners, widows, widowers and children. You will also lead engagement on behalf of the Minister for Veterans' Affairs and the Commissions.
- Gaining insights from the veteran and ex-service organisation perspective into the barriers to effective delivery of services and support to veterans and their families.
- Providing feedback from the veteran engagement back to the Minister, Commissions and the Department to inform how DVA can better support veterans and their families.
- Providing strategic advice on policy and operational issues affecting veterans and their families, including veterans' mental health. This advice will be directly informed by the relationships and engagement set out above. You will receive and respond to correspondence from clients and general public on veterans' issues and veterans' entitlements.
- Utilise strong conceptual and analytical ability and sound judgement as a member of the Commissions, to ensure decisions are robust, carefully considered, and are in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Representational and commemorative duties, including attending national stakeholder and state-based meetings and congresses.

To be a strong contender for this dual appointment, you will have an impressive record of achievement, preferably gained in the complex and politically sensitive environment of government and public administration.

Your ability to provide timely and robust advice to Ministers and your passion for delivering transformational change will be complemented by well-honed analytical and policy skills, exceptional communication and representational capabilities, relevant stakeholder engagement experience and a personal style that engenders trust and respect.

Service in the Australian Defence Force is highly desirable.
