**The Organisation**

Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was established in 1958 as Australia's first paediatric research facility. In their 65th year, the Institute is
**one of the nation's most highly regarded independent medical research centres**. CMRI has built a strong international reputation based on research achievements in embryonic development and birth defects, cancer, neuroscience and gene therapy.

Their research programs are supported by state-of-the-art facilities and committed research and support staff. Originally established through a massive public awareness campaign in the 1950s, the achievements of the Institute have always been made possible by a
**loyal network of community supporters, highly engaged donors** and the very successful
**Jeans for Genes** fundraising campaign.

You will be close to the work, witnessing transformational medical research taking place in the laboratories on site. The CMRI
**team are diverse** in age, background and skillset. In this position you will become a valued member of an 18-person fundraising team, directly contributing to the Major Gift Philanthropy unit of three people.

With an official affiliation with the University of Sydney, the CMRI team has the ability to connect with their Donor Relations and Proposal Writing teams, along with occasional
**access to professional training **and other opportunities.

**The Role -**
**Philanthropy Communications Officer**

As the
**newly established** Philanthropy Communications Officer, you will directly report to the Senior Associate Director of Development and provide crucial major donor stewardship and communications support, that will enable the two relationship leads to focus on generating six-figure-plus gifts.

This role isn't a front facing fundraising role. The day-to-day functions will be a blend of
**impactful writing**, translating scientific content into donor-friendly formats, and
**nurturing internal stakeholder relationships**.

Your tasks will be divided with approximately 40% donor stewardship, 40% proposal writing, and 20% to various activities, including offering support for the 'Honour Wall' and donor events.

**Responsibilities**:

- Collaborate with Relationship Management colleagues, academic leaders and CMRI staff to ensure consistent, high-quality proposals and stewardship offerings are delivered on a timely basis and meet fundraising objectives.
- Produce impactful copy that captivates and inspires readers to reflect and potentially make a significant contribution.
- Translate exciting scientific advancements into language suitable for donor letters, proposals, newsletters and impact reports.
- Operate autonomously, taking initiative to manage projects, juggle competing priorities whilst maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Showcase exceptional research skills, with the ability to synthesise and translate complex information, ensuring the clear articulation of donor impact.
- Ensure accurate and efficient use of Salesforce CRM

**Your Skills & Attributes**
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build meaningful relationships with internal stakeholders that promote collaboration and effective teamwork
- Demonstrated success in a donor communications or marketing/communications role within a fundraising, academic or government setting
- Passionate about medical research
- Ability to work autonomously, project management skills and proactive in your approach to your role
