**The role**:
The ALS Environmental Sydney business is renowned for quality, consistency and client service whilst holding a leading market position within Australia.
Due to sustained growth, we are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified professional to fulfil the role of
**Microbiology Team Leader**.
The successful applicant will have a hands-on role in coordinating a team characterized by exceptional customer service, superior data quality, exceeding customer expectations and on-time delivery of results.
The core duties of this role include assisting with the daily coordination of laboratory operations to maximize the throughput of high-quality, on-time reporting of results to internal and external stakeholders. Working closely with the customer service, sample receipt and laboratory supervisors, this role will report directly to the State Manager and will be essential to optimize all facets of the Sydney Environmental Laboratory, particularly in relation to turnaround time and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Scheduling and management of work through the Microbiology to maximize on-time delivery
- Supervising the Microbiology team and management of staff resources including technical training and development
- Overall efficiency of operations and ensuring the section is suitably equipped and using approved methodologies
- Quality System Conformance ensuring that data quality meets or exceeds company and market-acceptable standards
- Assessing Result Quality, Audits, Corrective Actions and Complaints and implementing improvements as required
- Training, analysis, reporting and development of new services
**The essentials**:
- Bachelor of Science (Microbiology or Biology).
- Experience in a commercial microbiology laboratory.
- Experience with algae counting and/or cryptosporidium analysis highly desirable.
- NATA accreditation and a sound understanding of NATA requirements and ISO 17025
- A good knowledge of Quality Systems and Quality Control procedures
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to confidently manage a demanding workload.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent management/supervisory skills.
- Dedication to good laboratory practices relating to quality of results and health and safety.
