About Us

Our Legal Team is a dynamic part of the University Secretary's Office and plays a vital role in supporting the University. We provide comprehensive legal services, including support for subsidiary companies and work closely with the Governance Services and Records Management and Archives divisions. Together, we ensure robust governance, uphold compliance and protect the University's interests whilst driving excellence across all areas. The Role

As the Legal Advisor, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with the Director of Legal Services to deliver expert legal guidance and support across Murdoch University's Schools, Offices and its wholly owned subsidiaries.

In this pivotal role your responsibilities will include providing timely and effective legal advice to staff, handling requests assigned by the Director and supporting the preparation, negotiation and finalisation of commercial contracts and documents to benefit the University. Additionally, you will play an active role in shaping University policy on legal and governance matters, offer legal advice in relation to the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA) and ensure all activities align with legislative requirements and guidelines. You will also assist the Director in the review, development and implementation of policy as needed.

What you'll bring to this role- Admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of WA with a current practising certificate- At least one year of post-admission experience in negotiating and drafting contracts and commercial documentation, ideally related to higher education, research funding, intellectual property, commercialisation, commercial leasing, procurement, construction, employment law, administrative law, and dispute resolution.- Generalist knowledge of relevant laws.- Analytical and problem-solving skills and a practical commercial approach.- A commitment to involving clients in the legal process through regular communication and present complex ideas in an easy-to-understand manner.
