**About the role**:
A key senior leadership role within Merri-bek City Council, the Unit Manager Compliance Operations oversees the delivery of education and enforcement activities to encourage compliance with legislation covering parking, animal management and local laws functions.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to stabilise and coach a high-performing team, uplift operational performance, and bring a balanced leadership approach—combining strategic oversight with hands-on support to deliver quality services for the community.
Working within the City Infrastructure Directorate, the Unit Manager Compliance Operations will bring strong people leadership and operational expertise to refine and strengthen team capability.
**Skills and experience require to perform the role**:
- Demonstrable experience in the WHS field and relevant tertiary qualification
- Extensive experience in coaching and mentoring team members and stakeholder across an organisation in all aspects of WHS
- Demonstrated experience in implementing a sustainable business partnering and case management model across a business
- Possess a continuous improvement mindset
- Exposure and ability to support the delivery of coherent, consistent and effective WHS services, including data analysis and preparation of management reporting
**Key responsibilities**:
- Lead and support a team of enforcement officers, coaching and developing leadership capability at all levels.
- Provide strong operational oversight of parking, local laws and animal management services, ensuring risks are managed and outcomes achieved.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements so that intended outcomes of the legislation are achieved.
- Ensure efficient service delivery, leveraging both in-house teams and external providers.
- Foster a positive, performance-driven culture within the Compliance Operations Unit.
**Skills and experience required to perform this role**:
- Tertiary qualifications in management or a related field and/or diverse experience leading compliance teams or similar service areas, with an ability to coach staff and manage performance constructively.
- Ability to lead both operational and strategic functions, with a focus on uplifting team capability and delivering high service standards.
- Customer-focused, adaptable, and able to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
- Current Driver's Licence valid in Victoria.
