
Program Leader Tourism Development

This role guides and strengthens Tourism Development opportunities both across the
organisation and the industry as a whole. The role is responsible for establishing strong,
lasting relationships with industry partners and both growing and nurturing the sector to
showcase the Blue Mountains across the state of NSW and internationally.
Particular focus is given by this position to supporting sustainable tourism initiatives that
provide local benefits - environmentally, socially and economically.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support and deliver sustainable tourism initiatives that deliver local benefits
- environmentally, socially and economically.
- Liaise with the Blue Mountains Tourism industry and forge strong partnerships with a focus
of building the industry's position within the Visitor Economy of NSW and Internationally.
- Act as a point of contact and provide specialist knowledge on tourism related matters,
within and external to Council.
- Build and strengthen networks with key governmental partners to generate visitor
economy funding and investment opportunities within the Blue Mountains
- Work collaboratively to raise the profile of the Blue Mountains as a destination and seek
to grow overnight visitation through initiatives such as industry famils, conferencing,
product development and marketing.
- Participate and / or lead projects that manage any adverse impacts from visitation and that
alleviate current pressures on the local government area arising from increased visitation.
- Support tourism operators to build and grow their business sustainably.
- Manage and guide the Tourism service including Councils Visitor Information Centres at
Glenbrook and Echo Point including staffing, stock management and brochure partners.

**Workplace Health & Safety**_ _
Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils policies
and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are not limited to:
identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your Supervisor or
Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative); never performing a
task that you believe is dangerous or for which you do not have the experience, or have not
received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct equipment to carry out the
task safely is not available; always work in a safe manner and in accordance with safety
instructions, where applicable; use the work equipment supplied for the job, in accordance
with the manufacturer's instructions), and any personal protective equipment, which the
Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety aware and report any actions to your
line manager which will assist the Council to meet its legal workplace health and safety
obligations.
You have the right to cease or direct cessation of unsafe work. In addition you are required at
all times to comply with Councils Asbestos Management Plan and Policy.

**COMMUNICATION**
The position requires highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written,
presentation and conflict resolution skills) and with proven ability to liaise and engage
effectively with the community and with other professionals with a tourism focus inside and
outside of Council. High level negotiation skills and a proven ability to influence are also critical
to this role.
**JUDGEMENT & PROBLEM SOLVING**
The position requires highly developed judgement and decision making skills given the role
will be required to coordinate a program
