In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.What you'll be doing:Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, and construction equipmentDiagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using computerized diagnostic equipment and analytical skillsConduct thorough inspections of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical componentsCarry out preventive maintenance tasks to minimize vehicle downtime and extend equipment lifeInterpret technical manuals and schematics to accurately troubleshoot and repair vehicle systemsMaintain detailed service records and documentation for all work performedCollaborate with team members and communicate effectively with customers regarding vehicle status and repair needsEnsure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized work environmentStay updated on the latest technologies and repair techniques in the heavy commercial vehicle industryThe skills and experience you'll bring to the role:Proficient knowledge of the mechanical operation and maintenance of a range of vehicles, plant and equipment inclusive of Garbage Compactors and road Sweeping trucks.Minimum 3-5 years of experience in heavy commercial vehicle repair and maintenanceAbility to analyse, diagnose and determine solutions to problems relating to plant and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.Ability to utilise and operate computer-based maintenance software to manage maintenance activities on day-to-day basis.Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices.Thorough understanding of workplace health and safety regulationsDetail-oriented approach to work with a focus on accuracy and qualityExcellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectivelyStrong communication skills to interact with team members and customersWillingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies in the fieldStrong mechanical skills and in-depth knowledge of heavy commercial vehicle systemsProficiency in using computerized diagnostic equipment and interpreting resultsExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills to diagnose complex issues efficientlyAbility to read and interpret technical manuals and schematicsExpertise in using various hand and power tools required for vehicle repairsRequired Certifications & Qualifications:Post trade qualifications (Heavy Commercial Motor Mechanic), garbage compactor technology or a related discipline/s, Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent qualificationHeavy rigid endorsement.Valid driver's license; heavy vehicle driver's license preferredWhy Hume City Council?
