The opportunity

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is launching a new Crisis Support Space (CSS) as part of a state-wide initiative to transform how we respond to mental distress and suicidal ideation. We're seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Mental Health Clinician to lead this innovative service and provide advanced clinical leadership in a non-clinical, peer-supported environment.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of mental health reform—supporting individuals in crisis while collaborating across emergency and community services.
About the Role
As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you will:
Provide clinical oversight and risk management within the CSS.
Support and mentor Peer Workers and non-clinical staff.
Deliver basic mental health triage and ensure appropriate referrals for clinical care.
Collaborate closely with the Emergency Department, Acute Care Team, and other services to ensure continuity of care.
Foster strong relationships with service providers to enhance referral pathways and treatment access.
Maintain a therapeutic environment that upholds the dignity and well-being of consumers and carers.
Lead quality improvement and research initiatives to evaluate and evolve the service.

What You'll Need
Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent) and registration with AHPRA.
Highly Regarded
Appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016, or a demonstrated commitment to completing the requirements for appointment.
Experience supporting crisis care initiatives or working within alternative service models such as peer-supported, non-clinical environments.
