As part of this role, you will be the guarantor of coding standards and practices in your tribe. You will also mentor and coach senior developers, squad tech leads. It will be an opportunity not only to be involved in complex projects, work autonomously, and take a piece of work from design to operations, but of leading the tribe into achieving such goals. We expect you to ensure code reviews, unit tests, and documentation are up to the standards. You not only need to be interested in improving and work according to best practices of CI/CD and DevOps but must ensure your tribe is motivated to do the same.
You will also gather and refine of user stories, organize, and oversee development sprints, and ensure the tribe delivers consistently and on time.
**Major Areas of Responsibility**:
- Own the technical roadmap / vision for the tribe (in collaboration with the architect team) and communicate it with the team to make sure they in sync and onboard.
- Take ownership of the Quality + Craftmanship of the tribe.
- You should first be an example himself/herself of clean code, craftmanship and coding best practices
- You should assess and train people in his/her team to ensure the rest of the people will maintain the same standard that he/she does via code reviews, workshops, etc.
- Ensure team members are motivated and aligned with the goals via giving them clear direction.
- Prepare technical growth plan for each member of the team.
- Take pride in growing team member and delivering beautiful products
- Mentors and coach's senior developers so they can become technical leads themselves.
- Mentors and coach's junior and mid-level developers so they can improve their craft.
- Plan, oversee, and review development squad sprints.
- Liaise with other areas of the business and ensure their requirements are met in a timely fashion.
- Keep up to date with the latest technologies and share that knowledge with the teams.
- Contribute to new technology/tool analysis and selection.
- Contribute to process and procedure improvements, and ensure your squads follow them.
- Perform code and design reviews and documentation, and ensure your squads follow best practices.
- Practice Agile methodologies.
- Works with DevOps and Quality Assurance leads to adopt and maintain the Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CD) process.
- Refines technical solutions provided by the Architecture team, or comes up with their own, depending on the situation.
- Need to develop the capacity model for the team so when new project comes in, we can use evidence-based estimation to guess project timeline rather than a finger in the air.
- Prepares and distributes tasks among members of the development team.
- Shields the team from external disturbances (e.g., clients requesting new features directly to developers instead of going through the proper channels).
- Ensure decisions are well documented.
- Ensure team members follow the standards defined by us.
- Remove Blockers and escalate concerns / team issues / blockers.
- Escalate ASAP if the delivery timeline is in risk based on the task estimation.
**Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge Required**:
- A tertiary qualification in IT or related field.
- Demonstrable experience in full SDLC.
- Extensive experience in the Java ecosystem, OO design and patterns.
- Extensive experience with open-source Java technologies and frameworks such as Spring.
- Experience with the Microservices pattern and containers.
- Experience with design and development of REST webservices.
- Experience in leading development teams.
