Primary objective

Lead, develop, implement, and coordinate a broad range of suicide prevention policies, program initiatives, activities, and intervention

strategies across the Northern Territory. Provide Secretariat and policy support to the Northern Territory Suicide Prevention Coordination

Committee.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Maintain effective collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders at local, Territory and national levels.

2. Monitor, coordinate, and oversee implementation of a range of suicide prevention programs across the Northern Territory to meet

Northern Territory Government strategic directions.

3. Monitor and contribute to evaluation and tender process of contract service agreement management of funded non-government

organisations providing services specific to suicide prevention.

4. Provide secretariat support to the Northern Territory Suicide Prevention Coordination Committee.

5. Monitor trends and lead strategic planning to provide evidence base to inform appropriate postvention interventions and preventative

planning in line with Northern Territory and Australian Governments frameworks.

6. Participate and represent Department of Health on national and Territory wide committees and working groups, forums and

conferences relating to Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs, to inform policy, research, and program development.

7. Demonstrated ability to effectively brief, negotiate and liaise with all levels of government, service providers and the community to

develop high level partnerships and strategic alliances that result in the development of policies, professional development

opportunities, strategies, and enhanced service delivery at the local, territory and national level.

order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.

  1. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour, including the ability to

interpret and manage the social, political, and organisational environment.

  1. Undertake other projects and initiatives as directed by the program Executive Director.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Tertiary qualification in a social science or health related discipline and where relevant registration or involvement in the specific

organisation and/or Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

2. Knowledge of policy, principles, frameworks, and legislation that underpin contemporary approaches to mental health and alcohol and

other drugs service delivery, with demonstrated project management skills.

3. Recognised high level skills in managing sensitive/confidential information such as that pertaining to alleged suicides.

4. Demonstrated high-level knowledge and experience in strategic planning, evaluation, and project management.

5. Proven skills in working strategically, including high level ability to think conceptually and analyse data and research findings.

6. Demonstrated relationship building and people management skills with the ability to effectively provide supervision of staff.

7. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues effectively to diverse groups

within set timeframes.

Desirable

1. Degree in a relevant discipline, post graduate studies in a mental health related field or quality improvement, project management,

strategy development, leadership and/or management or management/business administration.
